Band Discovery: ABYSSINIAN
Band Discovery
<R’s> ABYSSINIAN(アビシニアン)
Active: 2004–2009 (core) · Country: Japan (Hokuriku → Kanto) · Scene: Visual Kei (electronic/industrial edge)
History
<R’s> ABYSSINIAN were a short-lived underground VK unit that formed mid-2000s (local Hokuriku live houses) and later pushed into Tokyo/Nagoya/Osaka. They built momentum via free/venue-only CDs, then issued one proper maxi-single before fading from public activity. Their vibe mixes classic indie VK melodics with an electronic/industrial layer—more live-house grit than major-label gloss.
Sources list activity starting around 2004 (earliest free distributions in late 2004) with shows continuing through the late 2000s. Expect rarity: small pressings, DIY label energy, and videos that surface sporadically.
Line-up & Member Paths
Role | Member | Notes / Other Bands |
---|---|---|
Vocals | TOWA | Lead vocals (core period). |
Guitar · Vocals | 舞 (Mai) | Guitar + backing/alt vocals; founded indie label 猫目石 (Nekomeishi) for Abyssinian releases. |
Bass · Screams | ゲンタロー (Gentarou) | Listed as “伍弦+狂声” (five-string + harsh vocals). |
Composite Media | たくみ (Takumi) | Electronics/programming/sampling (“複合媒体”); joined 2007 to push the digital side. |
Past / Early Guitars | Gaku, Masa | Appear in early line-ups; later configuration centered on TOWA/Mai/Gentarou/Takumi. |
Notes: sources suggest role shifts (e.g., Mai handling more vocals at times) and a DIY label setup (Nekomeishi) dedicated to Abyssinian.
