OLD CIRCUS Release "Life is" Digital EP in August 2026

OLD CIRCUS new digital EP “Life is” release

A fresh supergroup is making waves in the Japanese rock underground. OLD CIRCUS—a newly formed collective of seasoned musicians from the Visual Kei and experimental rock scenes—will unleash their debut digital EP *Life is* this August.

The lineup reads like a who's-who of cult favorites. Vocalist Izumi Takahiro brings experience from Sibilebashir and Roman Kyuko, while guitarist TøRU previously played with the electronic-tinged SEX-ANDROID, also a Roman Kyuko alumnus. Bassist Ogawa Manjirō rounds out the core from his work with Minus Jin-Say Orchestra, and drummer Aile—currently active in MAMONO—completes the rhythm section. This is a band built on chemistry and experience.

The six-track EP showcases an intriguing range: "Tokyo" opens the journey, followed by "Monochrome Movie" and the provocatively titled "Idiots Everywhere." Mid-EP, "On a Starry Night" promises atmospheric storytelling, before the slightly defensive "I Don't Want To" and the contemplative closer "Maybe" round things out. The minimalist artwork—muted earth tones with stark typography—suggests a band more interested in sonic substance than visual excess, though Japanese rock fans know that can change quickly.

What's particularly interesting about OLD CIRCUS is how they bridge different corners of Japan's underground. Roman Kyuko's experimental tendencies meet the industrial electronics of SEX-ANDROID, all filtered through the raw energy of MAMONO's drum work. This isn't a nostalgia project; it feels like genuine creative synthesis.

Digital-only releases have become increasingly common in Japan as bands sidestep traditional label structures, and OLD CIRCUS appears to be following that smart path. For Western fans, this represents an exciting entry point into a genuinely new project—no legacy baggage, no expectations beyond the music itself.
