Ba.Tatsuya Joins 天井裏のザムザ as New Bassist
The Visual Kei underground just welcomed a seasoned musician to one of its most intriguing new projects. Ba.Tatsuya, bassist formerly of Kneuklid Romance, DATURA, and Distoma, has officially joined 天井裏のザムザ (Tenjōura no Zamza, literally "Zamza in the Attic") as their bassist.
If you haven't encountered this project yet, Tenjōura no Zamza is a captivating unit built around vocalist taiga's haunting delivery and theatrical aesthetic. The band's sonic palette blends atmospheric darkness with explosive dynamics—their recent video for "あめふり" (Rain) showcases exactly why this group deserves your attention. With Yu on guitar (previously of KANASHIBARI and Y.A.D), wataru on drums (from Sidro Modoro and Richly Colored (O) Poppy), and now Ba.Tatsuya anchoring the low end, the lineup represents a collision of experienced underground musicians.
Ba.Tatsuya's addition is particularly significant for anyone tracking the evolving Visual Kei underground. His previous work in Kneuklid Romance demonstrated a bassist unafraid of complex arrangements and textural depth—precisely what Tenjōura no Zamza's atmospheric, moody compositions demand. The band's aesthetic leans into the theatrical, introspective side of VK, rejecting flashy aggression in favor of brooding sophistication and visual storytelling.
This roster consolidation suggests the band is moving toward a more stable touring and recording phase. For Western fans still discovering Japanese underground acts, Tenjōura no Zamza represents exactly the kind of boundary-pushing project that keeps Visual Kei vital and unpredictable—far from mainstream rock radio, unapologetically theatrical, and completely uncompromising in vision.
If you haven't checked them out yet, start with their music video above, then follow their Twitter (@zamza_official) for tour announcements and new releases. This is the kind of band worth watching closely.
