The Visual Kei world is mourning the loss of a legend. LUNA SEA's drummer Shunya (真矢), who passed away in February at age 56 after a battle with cancer, is being honored through a special rebroadcast of his television appearances on the variety show "Kamaitachi" (かまいガチ).

Starting today, March 17, two episodes featuring Shunya will air on both TVer and ABEMA for a limited two-week window. The rebroadcast includes segments titled "Mastering 'ROSIER'" and "Budokan Live Behind-the-Scenes" (前後編), celebrating his infectious personality and legendary drumming skills that made him a beloved figure both on and off stage.

**Who Was Shunya?**

Born in 1970 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Shunya's musical foundation was rooted in traditional Japanese arts. Raised by a Noh theatre performer, he developed an early appreciation for rhythm through Noh and festival taiko drumming before formally studying drums in high school. When LUNA SEA formed in 1989, Shunya's powerful, precise technique became integral to the band's signature sound.

Over LUNA SEA's decades-long career—from their 1992 major debut with *IMAGE* through their 2000 "final curtain call" and subsequent 2010 reboot—Shunya remained the band's rhythmic backbone. Beyond LUNA SEA, his session work graced recordings and stages with artists including Musclé Shoujo Tai, Ōkuro Maki, and Kikkawa Kōji, cementing his reputation as one of Japan's most versatile and respected drummers.

**The Kamaitachi Connection**

In 2022, Shunya participated in a "Kamaitachi" variety show concept that spawned GACHI SEA, a LUNA SEA parody band featuring comedian Yamauchi from Kamaitachi on vocals. The group's appearance at LUNA SEA's "Fukkatsu Matsuri -A NEW VOICE-" concert at Budokan that same year became an unexpected highlight, showcasing Shunya's wit and willingness to embrace the absurd.

The network's decision to rebroadcast these episodes as a tribute reflects Shunya's lasting impact beyond the Visual Kei community—he was genuinely beloved by mainstream Japanese television audiences.

**Don't miss this chance to celebrate Shunya's legacy.** Stream the rebroadcast on TVer and ABEMA while they're available through March 31.
